See if your trained dog qualifies as a Service Dog—never leave them behind.
START MY ASSESSMENTA Service Dog is not the same as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). While an ESA provides comfort simply through its presence, a Service Dog is a working animal that must be individually trained to perform specific tasks directly related to a disability.
Examples of trained tasks include: interrupting panic attacks, performing deep pressure therapy during anxiety episodes, reminding the handler to take medication, creating physical space in crowds, and alerting to oncoming episodes.
Because Service Dogs are trained to perform disability-related work, they are granted broader legal protections than ESAsâincluding public access to stores, restaurants, and businesses under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Understanding the key differences helps you determine which path is right for you.
